Caroline Gentile, Maine – 1992

Caroline Gentile has been active as a coach, official, and advocate for women sports since 1946.  What started as play days developed into the Maine Athletic and Recreation Federation of College Women in 1965 because of her efforts.  She served as the organization president in 1971-72 and for many years as its treasurer.

Under her guidance, a major program in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation was developed at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

She is a member of the Maine Commission for Women and serves as an advocate for athletic programs for women.  In 1988 she was the first woman in Maine to be recognized for her contributions on behalf of girls and women’s sports at the Maine Celebration of National Girls and Women in Sport Day.
