Cheryl Murtagh, Massachusetts – 2009
Cheryl Murtagh has spent 25 years as the field hockey coach at Northeastern University. She was named the Northeast Regional Coach of the Year seven times and her teams at Northeastern University have participated in the NCAA Final Four Field Hockey Tournament three times.
Through work at summer field hockey camps, the USA field hockey developmental program (28 years), and clinics for coaches and players in Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire, Cheryl has promoted field hockey for high school and middle school girls throughout the northeast. As a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association, Cheryl is on the All-American selection committee and observes many of the nation’s top talent.
A Hall of Fame member at both Bishop Fenwick High School and the University of New Hampshire, Cheryl believes that “getting young ladies involved in sports is extremely important.”
