Cynthia M. Adamski, Connecticut – 2002
Cynthia Adamski has been involved in girls and women’s athletics for over 30 years as a coach, official, and athletic director. She has coached at the high school level for thirty years, officiated basketball from 1968 to the present, and served on committees for the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Association, the Connecticut Coaches Association, the WCC League, and the SWC League. She has also coached in the National Field Hockey Futures program since its inception and been a coach and player in summer league softball from 1969 through 1984.
Her league affiliations include: coaching in the Berkshire League (1972-1977), the SWC (1995-2002) and the WCC (1979-1994). She is a NAGWS rated high school and college referee. She is a member of the Connecticut Board of Certified Basketball Officials and the New Haven Women’s Basketball Board. She holds a national basketball rating and a local rating for field hockey. From 1976-1986, Cynthia was the coordinator of Collegiate Basketball Referees in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Each year from 1975 through 1986, she officiated high school championship games. She has officiated extensively at the collegiate level: in 1980, the AIAW Regional Finals, the National Division I quarter and semifinal games; in 1981, the EAIAW East Regional Final, the Ivy League Championship, the CIAC Class M final, and the AIAW Division II final game; in 1982, the Metro- Atlantic League Championship, the Ivy League Championship, the EAIAW Regionals, the NCAA Division I East Regional final, the AIAW National Championship; in 1983, the Atlantic-10, Ivy League, Big East and Sun Belt
conference Championships, and the NCAA Regional, Division I finals; in 1984, Atlantic-10, Big East, NECC League Championships, the ECAC Tournament, and the NCAA East Regional Division I final. In 1985, the NCAA Division II Regionals.
Softball teams coached by Cynthia have earned spots in many tournaments and post-season competitions: eight league titles in softball (Berkshire League – 8, WCC – 2, and SWC – 1). They have also earned 6 Divisional titles, were league runners-up 4 times. Her field hockey teams have won the Berkshire League title and seven divisional titles.
Cynthia has been inducted into the Connecticut women’s Basketball Hall of Fame (1990), the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2000), was named coach of the year in field hockey (1996) and coach of the year for softball (2000). She received the Women’s basketball Merit Award in 2002, the CBCBO Service Award in 1989, and the Brookfield Journal Coach of the Year in 2000. In 1980 the Tap-Off Club named her the Outstanding Official for 1980 and the Danbury News Times named her the Softball Coach of the Year in 2000.
