Linda Dirga, Connecticut – 1998

Linda is a graduate of Arnold College, Bridgeport, CT.  She is a teacher of physical education at the Rochambeau Middle School, Southbury, CT, and a coach at Pomperaugh High School, Southbury, CT.  Linda has coached field hockey and track& field and officiates field hockey and basketball.

Her league and board affiliations include the CT Field Hockey Coaches Association where she sits as her league representative; the CT Field Hockey Board of Officials, chair of the Nominating Committee; the United States Field Hockey Association, camp director and instructor in the Futures Program.  She also is a member of the Executive Board of the CT Interscholastic Athletic Conference, representing field hockey.  She competes in the Western CT Conference and the Southwest CT Conference.

Linda has extensively officiated in field hockey and basketball.  Her post-season tournament officiating has included the Women’s High School Finals in basketball, 1976-1978.  She has officiated post-season field hockey tournaments and officiated at the women’s finals in field hockey for five years (1978-1982).  In 1980 and 1981, Linda officiated at the junior college finals.

Field hockey teams coached by Linda amassed outstanding records:  Western CT state championships, 3 years; Southwest CT championships, 3 years; state runners-up, 3 years, and state champs, 1 year.  Her 13 year lifetime record in field hockey is 186-19-18.

The University of Bridgeport recognized her accomplishments by inducting her into the Hall of Fame in 1989.  She was also recognized as the Outstanding Coach of the Year from 1990-1994.
