Lorraine E. Sumner, Massachusetts – 1992
Prior to her retirement from officiating, Lorraine had been active in basketball, softball, volleyball, field hockey, and lacrosse officiating for a period of 33 years. For 20 years she did volunteer service for the church leagues in Quincy, MA, and settlement houses in Boston.
She was an active member of the Boston Board and of the South Suburban Board of Officials. During her presidency, she was instrumental in filing for equal pay status for all coaches. Additionally, for thirty years, she has been involved with the Boston Field Hockey and Lacrosse Associations, serving in every elective office. During that time, Lorraine was involved in the training and judging of officials.
Lorraine was an advocate for the establishment of physical education and sports in the catholic schools, teaching for a period of time in many of their schools. For fourteen years, Lorraine served as the girls’ field consultant for the MIAA.
For many years, Lorraine was active in amateur softball and Northeast Field Hockey and Lacrosse national tournaments. Lorraine is an Honorary Life Member of the Boston Board and has been recognized by the South Suburban Board, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, CYO, and the YMCA.
Lorraine is currently the owner of Friends in Travel, an agency located in West Roxbury, MA.
