Lynn Miller, Massachusetts – 1997

Lynn Miller is a teacher, coach, and administrator at Wheaton College in Norton, MA.  Her WomanSport involvement includes her work as a coach of the women’s varsity tennis team, both fall and spring seasons, from 1980 to the present.  She also teaches co-ed tennis as a part of the physical education program.  During the academic year, Lynn conducts tennis clinics for girls and boys and directs clinics for tennis coaches at Wheaton.  During 1989, 1990, and 1991, Lynn conducted a tennis camp in her hometown of Franklin, MA.

From 1985-1987, Lynn was the tennis chairperson for MAIAW; from 1990-1992, she served on the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament Seeding Committee; from 1992-1997, she served as secretary for the New England Women Tennis Coaches’ Association; and from 1996-1998, she served the New England Women’s 8 Tennis as chairperson.  Her lifetime record for her women’s tennis teams is 180-112 at Wheaton (54-43 for men’s team).

Lynn has held ratings in field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse (1970-1090).   In 1984, she officiated at the NCAA Individual Championship; in 1990 at the Rolex Nationals; and in 1996 she coached the New England Team at the USTA 16s Zonals in St. Louis.

Among her many honors are: listings in Outstanding College Athletes of America and Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities in 1975; Outstanding Young Women of America; the WJCC Community Salute Award in 1985; the New England Women’s 8 Coach of the Year in Tennis in 1989, the same year in which she was inducted into the Plymouth State College Hall of Fame.  She was also the keynote speaker at tennis banquets for Pongansett, RI, High School and at Franklin, MA, High School in 1989.

Lynn, an active tennis player, is ranked #2 USTA singles player (35 and over) and she will be ranked in 45s for her play this past summer.  An NASTAR GS ski racer, she also works out daily.
