Susan Leckey has dedicated over three decades to supporting girls’ sport opportunities in Madison, Connecticut. She began her career with Madison Public Schools in 1989 and has served as the Varsity Field Hockey Coach at her alma mater, Daniel Hand High School, since 2003.

During her coaching career, she has not only won Connecticut State Championships in field hockey, but she has also supported the sport experiences of youth participating  in  the  Madison  Little  League softball program and on the basketball and softball teams at Daniel Hand High School. She also shaped young athletes through her work with more than 30 field hockey, basketball, and softball camps.

For her dedication, Susan has received several notable accolades. The Connecticut High School Coaches Association recognized her as Coach of the Year on two occasions and as Class M High School Coach of the Year on three occasions. In 2021, she was inducted into the Madison Athletic Hall of Fame.

Susan cherishes the feedback she receives from players and parents from the Daniel Hand High School field hockey program and Madison Little League softball. Passionate about mentoring, Susan ensures her players have rewarding experiences, emphasizing positive, energetic, and good-natured competition. Susan’s coaching ethos has been inspired by those coaches who came before her, notably by Babby Nuhn and Kitty Palmer.

While an undergraduate student at the University of Vermont, Susan participated as a student-athlete on both the field hockey and softball team. She graduated in 1989 with a degree in political science and went on to receive her master’s degree in history from Southern Connecticut. Susan holds a Connecticut middle through high school teaching certification, and a Connecticut high school coaching certification.
