Yvonne Mongeau Frates, Vermont – 1992

Yvonne Mongeau Frates, Vermont – 1992

Yvonne has been a teacher and coach at Woodstock Union High School in Woodstock, Vermont, for 20 years.  She combined the rearing of a family with her involvement as a teacher-coach.  Both of her girls won college field hockey scholarships.  Her youngest girl, a graduate of Penn State, is now the assistant coach of field hockey at Yale and will be the varsity tennis coach at Weston Connecticut High School in the spring.

Over a twenty year period, Yvonne’s teams have won four state championships and eight Connecticut Valley League Championships.  With the exception of 1988, her teams were state champs from 1983 through 1991.  In 1988 they were runners-up.

She has conducted field hockey camps for many summers and was one of the originators of the Connecticut Valley League.  In 1987 she was voted the “Coach of the Year” in the state of Vermont and that same year was selected as the female “Coach of the Year” by the Coaches’ Scholastic Magazine.
