Justine Pouravelis, Massachusetts- 2025

Justine Pouravelis has dedicated her career to elevating the visibility of women’s sports and ensuring that female athletes receive the recognition they deserve. A 15-time Emmy Award-winning sports media executive, Pouravelis spent 18 years at New England Sports Network (NESN), where she created groundbreaking content and initiatives centered on women’s athletics. She co-launched the Women of NESN (WON), a platform dedicated to female-led branding and coverage of women’s sports, including content for the PWHL hockey team. She also launched “Respect Her Game,” a video podcast highlighting women’s sports.

Her leadership at NESN helped transform the media landscape in New England. Pouravelis played an integral role in promoting the first-ever Women’s Beanpot at TD Garden televised on NESN and worked to facilitate multiple female-led broadcasts, setting new standards for representation in sports coverage. She was also recognized for her creative impact on younger audiences through NESN Clubhouse, a kids’ show that received multiple Emmy Awards, including those honoring its focus on women in sports. Through all her work, she has remained committed to advancing equity and opportunity for women in sports media.

A standout athlete herself, Pouravelis’s dedication to sports began long before her career at NESN. She starred on the basketball court at Bowdoin College, where she was named a Division III All-American in 2006. Her achievements on the court culminated in her induction into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015, further cementing her legacy amongst our region’s best.

Today, Pouravelis continues to inspire the next generation through her role as a Professor of Practice at Simmons University, where she is teaching Introduction to Women’s Sports Management. Her work at the intersection of women’s sports, media, and education reflects her lifelong mission: to grow the game, highlight female success stories, and ensure that women in athletics receive the opportunities and visibility they deserve. Her induction into the New Agenda-Northeast Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to her extraordinary impact as both a leader in sports media and a passionate advocate for women in sports.
