Adrienne Shibles, Maine -2024
Adrienne received her bachelor’s of arts in history from Bates College in 1991; then she attended Smith College where she earned her masters of science degree in exercise and sports studies.
Since 2023 Adrienne has been an associate athletic director at Bates College. She has been an advocate for girls’ sports through athletic administrating and coaching for 30 years. She is passionate about “enhancing the student experience, creating inclusive spaces, promoting positive culture creations and empowering others to embrace their authenticity and utilize their voices.”
As the Dartmouth College Head Coach of Women’s Basketball (2021-2023), Adrienne managed a staff of 4 coaches, an athletic trainer, and strength and conditioning assistant. She was involved in planning the budget and fundraising, collaborating with the Dartmouth Peak Performance program and working on athletic facilities and renovation projects.
Adrienne was Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Bowdoin College (2008-2021) where she recorded the most career wins in school history (281-67). Here she also implemented a shared leadership program that transformed team culture.
From 1996 to 2005 Adrienne was an associate professor of physical education and head women’s basketball coach at Swarthmore College (PA) where she helped transform the program from the bottom of the league in 1996 to the Centennial Conference Championship team in 2001. She also directed the undergraduate physical education program and was responsible for curriculum creation and staffing. From 2005 to 2008 she worked at Gould Academy in Maine and was part of an administrative team that directed the daily life of a selective college preparatory school promoting athletic development initiatives.
As a volunteer, Coach Shibles was involved with Special Olympics where she organized and coached at countless Special Olympic basketball, bowling and track events. She volunteered for a non-profit that provided adapted equipment for families of children with developmental disabilities and also volunteered at a food pantry during the Covid outbreak.
