
Barbara A. Stevens, Massachusetts – 1994
Barbara is the head women’s basketball coach at Bentley College, Waltham, MA. Her collegiate coaching career started at Clark University where she coached from 1977 to 1983. Then it was three years at the University of Massachusetts before she moved to Bentley in 1986.
While at Clark, she guided her teams to three Division III state championships and a post-season tournament five straight years. During those years, she also served as softball coach, coordinator or women’s athletics, and assistant athletic director.
During her outstanding career at Bentley College, which began in 1986, Barbara’s teams have averaged 29 wins a year, have won five regular Northeast-10 Conference Titles, and made five trips to the NCAA tournament. Her record at Bentley to October of 1992 has been 178-21. Her win and loss record from 1977-1992 has been 335-112.
She has served as vice president of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and will assume the presidency for the 1993-1994 year. In 1992, she was the recipient of the Converse/WBCA Division II “Coach of the Year” Award and the New England Women’s Leadership Award for achievement in sports. On four occasions, she has been the recipient of the Northeast-10 Conference “Coach of the Year.”
