Eleanor Lemaire, Rhode Island – 1990
Eleanor is the Senior Associate Director of Athletics at the University of Rhode Island, a position she has held since 1976. She has coached field hockey, basketball, tennis, softball, golf, bowling, and sailing at the high school and college level. She has served as a Title IX Consultant for the State of Connecticut, and has been actively involved with state and national committees. Her teaching career has been at both the high school and college levels. She served as athletic director at Arnold College prior to assuming the position at the University of Rhode Island. She continues her life-long advocacy for girls’ and women’s sports. A bumper sticker on her office door expresses her belief: “When you’ve been abused, you fight”.
