Ellen S. Lewis, Massachusetts – 2002

Ellen is a teacher of English and head girls’ volleyball coach at Brookline High School in Brookline, Massachusetts.  She has been involved with athletics at Brookline High School from 1982 to the present, serving as girls’ volleyball coach from 1982 to the present, girls’ tennis coach from 1981 to the present, and boys’ volleyball coach from 1986-1993.  She is involved with the Newton Smash Volleyball Club and head coach for the girls’ 18s for 2000 and 2001.  She also coached the Mass Patriots Volleyball Club from 1984-1989.

Her league affiliations include the Bay State Conference, the Suburban League, and the NERVA.
Ellen’s teams have outstanding records:  girls’ volleyball 252-246, boys’ volleyball 120-16.  They were state champions in 1989, 1990, and 1992.  Her girls’ tennis team records were not available.

Participation in tournament play was extensive.  Her girls’ volleyball team participated in the state tournament in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1889, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, and 1995.  Boys’ tournament play included 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000.  Her tennis teams made state tournament play from 1981-1986.  The Newton Smash Volleyball Club was the New England Regional Champion in 2000 and 2001.

The Boston Globe named Ellen the 1991 Boys’ Volleyball Coach of the Year.
