Marianne “Mim” Jarema, Massachusetts – 1999

Marianne “Mim” Jarema is currently a physical therapy assistant.  Her extensive coaching career includes serving as basketball, field hockey, and softball coach at Chelmsford, MA, High School from 1965-1970.  She has also coached at Reading High School: basketball (1987-1989), softball (1986-1996), field hockey (1989-present), and at North Reading High School: softball (1999-present).  From 1978 to 1990, she worked in the Youth Sports Program for the Town of Reading.  Marianne has worked as a basketball official in the mid 1960’s and in field hockey from 1981-1989.  Her advocacy has included working with the Merrimack Valley League Girls’ Coaches Association from 1966-1969, serving on the MIAA State Field Hockey Committee from 1987-1907, and with the Town of Reading Girls’ Youth Sports from 1978 to the present.

Her league affiliations include the Merrimack Valley League from 1965-1969, the Middlesex League from 1986 to the present, the Cape Ann League from 1999 to the present.  She worked with the Town of Reading Youth Basketball from 1981-1989 and Youth Softball from 1978-1990, and with the ASA Junior Olympic Softball from 1984-1990.  She was also a member of the Middlesex Board of Field Hockey Officials from 1981-1989.

Her lifetime record in field hockey is 119-36-23 and in softball 57-9.  She was secretary of Reading Youth Baseball from 1978-1980 and commissioner from 1989-1999.  From 1982-1988 she was the girls’ coordinator for Reading Youth Basketball.  She has also served as Assigner of field hockey officials for Middlesex, Greater Boston, and Merrimack Leagues from 1982-1992.  From 1992-1993, Marianne served as the Administrative Director of the United States Field Hockey Association Futures Program and as Administrative Director for Massachusetts.

Participation by her teams in championship and post-season tournaments includes: North Division I field hockey, 1992; North and State Division 3 softball, 1999.  She served at the director of the MIAA North Field Hockey Tournament from 1987-1997 and as state director, 1992-1997.

The Middlesex League recognized her as Field Hockey Coach of the Year in 1990 and Softball Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1995.
