Martha Jamieson, Massachusetts – 2024
The length and breadth of Martha’s journey as an athlete, coach and administrator has spanned over 4 decades. She started as a youth softball coach (1980 – 1988) and ended her coaching career as the assistant softball coach at Springfield College. Her athletic administrative career includes stops at Bellows Falls in Vermont, Haverhill High School, Wayland High School and Silver Lake Regional High School in Massachusetts.
As a recent retiree (June 30, 2024) Martha has had time to look back at her career of over 40 years in women’s sports.
Martha spent significant time serving on MIAA committees for basketball, volleyball officials, and softball. which she chaired from 2011 to 2024. A staunch supporter of women and girls sports from the start of her career, she was involved in creating the first Women in Sport Conference in Vermont in 1986. Additionally she was a mentor for the 1998 Girls Incorporated of Haverhill, MA program “Take a Girl to Work Day”.
Martha has received many awards including the 2000 MSSADA Ted Damko Award, the 2016 National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Distinguished Service Award for Massachusetts, and the 2020 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls’ and Women in Sports Distinguished Service Award. Aside from awards and positions held, Martha defines herself as “a staunch advocate for recruiting and hiring women to coach at any level.” She has had to fight to make those appointments and spoke frequently about how important it is to give girls appropriate role models as their sport coach.
